Holiday Nutrition Tips From Our Registered Dietician

The holiday season is here and it is an especially hard time of year to stick with your usual nutrition and fitness habits because there’s always so much going on!

Our Registered Dietitian has a few tips to help you feel your best throughout these next few months:

  • Do NOT skip meals — especially if you’re trying to “save up” for that holiday party later. It’s much better to go into that situation well fed. If you’re hangry when you get to the party you’re more likely to feel out of control and overeat.
  • Stay on top of hydration. Keep a water bottle with you all day–you can’t drink it if you don’t have it close by. If you are drinking at a get together, alternate between an alcoholic beverage and a water. You’ll still have a drink in your hand and feel social but you’ll feel A LOT better in the morning. Speaking of the morning–add some electrolytes to your water the morning after that holiday party to help combat the dehydration.
  • Prioritize sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body pumps out more ghrelin (a hormone that makes you feel hungry) which makes it more likely that you’re going to overeat.
  • Keep it SIMPLEPlan easy meals. Take advantage of grocery pick up/delivery. Sign up for a meal kit delivery service. Use our meal planning service (email info@locomotionfit.com for details). Take convenient products and add things like protein and veggies to them for a quick dinner. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to look pretty!
