Our coaches/instructors are pretty awesome, but don’t take our word for it!
If you’ve wanted to get to know them better, you’re in luck! Every month we’ll be introducing (and re-introducing!) you to the people who keep LOCO in MOTION. We recently sat down with one of our amazing yoga instructors, Nikki, and asked her some burning questions in an effort to get to know her better.
Enjoy!
Describe yourself in five words or less. And, go!
Happy, laid back, zero judgement!
Did you choose the yoga instructor life or did the yoga instructor life choose you? Explain.
That’s a really interesting way to put it. I chose to start teaching for a very specific reason and by the time I was done with my training every bit of the reason was gone. It completely changed my outlook on life and what the hell I was doing with mine.

What inspires and motivates you as a yoga instructor?
The students. Not even a question. If I am able to give even one person a day what yoga gives to me I’m doing exactly what I should be doing.
Favorite pose & why?
Frog pose. I love to hate it. It does not matter how long a person practices this shape it brings everything to surface – from a physical standpoint to the mental side of things you’re there in it and it just gets to a deeper level every single time.
What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness?
Get over your story because that’s likely what it is. That is exactly what it was for me and once I dropped my negative self narrative things opened up in my life that I would never have believed.
What were you like in high school?
Ha! A gigantic mess…
Are you a hunter or a gatherer? Why?
I’m a great eater and listener.
Favorite band/musician/song of all time?
I physically cannot choose one but Breath by Pearl Jam is definitely top 3 – these lyrics are tattooed on my body!
Cake or pie?
All of the above!
If you were a crayon in an 8-count Crayola Box, what color would you be?
Green
Favorite 90s jam?
Again, I can’t pick just one.
What do you wish you were better at? (This could be anything from organizational skills, to cooking, to running, to small-talk, to thrusters!)
I wish I was better at listening to the things I share with other people – mainly negative self talk. I’m my own worst critic.
2020 was a tough year. How are you making 2021 better, regardless of the circumstances?
Taking it day by day and being thankful for things as small as the water I get to drink.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I can shake my eye balls.
Coffee or tea?
Tea
Favorite book?
Right now, The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein.
Favorite podcast?
Terrible, Thanks for Asking.
Favorite travel destination?
Costa Rica
Favorite place to eat in Charleston?
It was FIG, but now I really enjoy my house and the time I have to cook.
