Congratulations to our July member of the month, Casey Morrison!

Casey has been with us for a little over a year and has spent EVERY moment of that time with us striving to be a better version of herself – her hard work and commitment to learning new things and getting stronger here at Loco is incredibly admirable. She’s always looking for ways to practice, asks the right questions, and isn’t afraid to give the answer a try!

A regular “noon-er”, she’s heavily into lunchtime CrossFit but also dabbles in other classes like yoga and Barbell Bettys. She’s got some serious jokes and a friendly presence that is felt by all. This award is long overdue and makes us very, very proud to give to you, Casey! You’ve earned it AND that darn parking spot! Can’t wait to keep witnessing you crush it!

  1. What is your favorite thing about being a Loco athlete? 

There are so many things to love. Learning new skills and reaching new fitness milestones. Above all else it’s being able to accomplish these things with this great community. Being able to work out with people who have similar goals. We are all cheering each other on and celebrating each other’s hard work. 

  1. How long have you been a member at Loco?  

Since May 2022

  1. What group fitness offerings do you typically participate in at Loco? Do you have a favorite? Discuss.

 CrossFit is where you will find me most frequently and recently I have been trying to fit more yoga classes into my schedule to help with balance, mobility and recovery. 

  1. How would you describe the community at Loco?

 I would say Loco is a very welcoming and friendly community from the coaches to the athletes. Everyone is having fun, working hard, and cheering each other on. 

  1. What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness? 

Give it a try! Everyone was new at one point or another. You will find that you wish you had done so sooner! It also helps to find something that you enjoy doing and keep working at it. 

  1. Favorite music to sweat to? 

According to Spotify it’s either going to be some good vibes or angst.

  1. Favorite movement/workout? 

Deadlifts or power cleans – almost anything with the barbell 

  1. Is there a member of the LocoFam that inspires and motivates you to be better? Feel free to give them a shoutout! 

So many people have motivated and helped me along the way! All our coaches are fantastic and have done a lot for me in my time at loco. Coach Katie, Bryan, and Michael all helped me find a love for CrossFit since the beginning and Coach Jess(es) and Carter have taught me a lot to improve. I need to give a special shout out to the noon class as my fellow nooners always keep the workouts fun. Also want to give a shout out to the 5:15am regulars for letting me crash it every now and then.

  1. Favorite post-workout meal?

 It kind of depends but I usually have a protein shake and/or chicken and rice. On special days I will splurge for that pub sub

  1. What fitness-related goals do you have for 2023 and beyond?

 Honestly I might have too many goals at the moment and need to dial in my focus. I would say number 1 is pull-ups as I’m not quite there yet. Then more generally just want to work on gymnastics movements and continue to get stronger and have fun doing it.

  1. Describe your athletic abilities in five words or less.

 Hard work and determination 

  1. Give us your background story – Try to be brief (you can talk about anything from education to career, to pets, to family, to hobbies, etc). 

I am not originally from SC but moved here when I was in middle school and grew up very active playing sports year round. I went to school at the University of South Carolina and lived in Columbia before moving back to Charleston. My free time consists of all things Gamecock sports, NY Giants football in fall and Riverdogs games in the summer. I also enjoy going to the beach, hitting up a brewery, and visiting my parents in Surfside. My work schedule varies a lot so you will find me at Loco various times throughout the week!
