Meet our member of the month, Ryan Harrington. Ryan was chosen by our coaching staff for the month of August due to his dedication to consistently coming to the gym weekly. He works hard and has fun, and both Ryan and his partner Tiffany have been an awesome addition to the loco family! Check out what he had to say about his experience at Loco so far.
Q: How long have you been a member at Loco?
A: Since January 2021
Q: What is your favorite thing about being a Loco athlete?
A: I really enjoy the community feel of the gym – definitely different than any other gym I’ve been a part of
Q: What group fitness offerings do you typically participate in at Loco? Do you have a favorite? Discuss.
A: I’m primarily in boot camp. I’ve enjoyed it so much that I haven’t branched out to the other offerings but definitely need to get in some yoga – I could work on my flexibility (and probably my Zen too)
Q: How would you describe the community at Loco?
A: It is a very open and accepting gym – definitely has a “come as you are” feel. Everyone is friendly and happy to lend a helping hand. You can tell the coaches really care about making sure everyone is having a good experience no matter what your fitness level is. (Okay, we may have gotten a little excited about this answer because this is everything that we stand for!)
Q: What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness?
A: Just do it….the hard part is showing up, it’s fun once you get in the door!
Q: Favorite music to sweat to?
A: 90’s Hip Hop
Q: Least favorite music to sweat to?
A: Anything slow-paced music seems to really drag workouts on for me.
Q: Favorite movement/workout?
A: I like anything where there’s an element of friendly competition in it- helps you get through some of the more brutal workouts. And box jumps.
Q: Least favorite movement/workout?
A: Burpees, especially when the workout calls for some ridiculous amount of them (and they usually do)
Q: Is there a member of the LocoFam that inspires and motivates you to be better?
A: My fiancée Tiffany is a member of the LocoFam and definitely motivates me –she actually joined Loco first and encouraged me to check it out. (We’d have to agree with you, Ryan! Tiffany is definitely a hard working athlete!)

Q: Is there a member of the LocoFam that needs to know you are coming for them? Feel free to put them on notice!
A: Any of you maniacs that are doing weighted pull-ups and muscle ups…maybe one day I’ll get there in the distant future (You’ve got this! We know you can meet this goal.)
Q: Favorite post-workout meal?
A: I usually do a protein shake or almonds post workout…and lots of H2O, especially during this sweltering summer
Q: What fitness-related goals do you have for 2021?
A: I’ve signed up for the Bridge Run in September, so cardio is the focus for the next month (we’ve spotted you running around Park Circle – we love to see our athletes take their fitness outside the gym, too. Keep up the good work!)
Q: Describe your athletic abilities in five words or less.
A: 40 year old dad bod
Q: What’s your background story outside of Loco?
A: I grew up locally in Summerville and went to the University of South Carolina (Go Cocks!). I’ve been fortunate to have lived in and traveled to a lot of fun places through my work as a Systems Engineer, but happy to have been back home in Charleston for about 9 years. I’m a proud dad of three, and lucky to have Tiffany as my partner in crime to balance our seemingly non-stop life! When we’re not in the gym, we enjoy traveling, live music, trying new restaurants (and re-visiting old faves), breweries, wineries and hanging out with friends.
Ryan, you’ve been such a fun member to coach, and we look forward to watching you (and Tiffany) crush your goals in the gym. Keep on doing what you’re doing – you’re killing it!
