MOTM: Madison Hackett

How long have you been a member at Loco?

About nine months.

What is your favorite thing about being a member at Loco?

The community! When I moved to Charleston, I knew all of 4 people in the area. Loco has given me a place meet and train with very supportive, very cool people. Having such an awesome community makes participating in challenging workouts and events sooo much more fun and engaging.

What group fitness offerings do you typically participate in at Loco? Do you have a favorite?

I oscillate between CrossFit and Yoga: usually the morning sessions of CrossFit during the week and Yoga every other Saturday, when I can. I’ve participated in a lot of different sports and activities over the years, but CrossFit has been the fitness regimen that has most improved my physical and mental wellness. I appreciate that there is never an “easy” workout in these classes, as the focus is always on improvement. The Madison of nine months ago would not believe how much I have learned and what I can do now. I cherish Yoga as a recovery from these strenuous workouts and from my sedentary job.

How would you describe the community at Loco?

The best – I challenge anyone to find a more supportive, fun, motivated, and engaging group of people – spoiler: you can’t!

What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness?

I tell people the same thing I had to tell myself when I first started. It really doesn’t matter what other people think about you because you aren’t showing up for them, you’re there for yourself. If you could see us all sweating on these bikes (or hear me groaning over the music), you would see what I had to learn – there is no way that anyone has the mental or physical energy to focus on what you’re doing because they are quite busy themselves. It’s a great opportunity to learn from each other.

Favorite music to sweat to?

Anything high energy really, but I definitely *feel* like I can pick up heavier weight the heavier the music is.

Least favorite music to sweat to?

I plead the fifth.

Favorite movement/workout?

Anything involving lifting.

Least favorite movement/workout?

Burpeeeeeees.

Is there a member of the LocoFam that inspires and motivates you to be better? Feel free to give them a shout out!

ALL OF YOU AMAZING PEOPLE

Is there a member of the LocoFam that needs to know you are coming for them? Feel free to put them on notice!

My husband, with love, because he just joined and I know it’s going to be a challenge to stay ahead.

Favorite post-workout meal?

A Starbucks cold brew (my realest answer) and a few slices of turkey and cheese when I realize that I am probably not getting protein in my cold brew. (Don’t worry, Madison – your fellow Loco fam is just as addicted to cold brew as you, hence the nitro cold brew by the front desk – hah).

What fitness-related goals do you have for 2021?

I want to get an unassisted pull-up and handstand this year (we KNOW you can do that – you’re already halfway there). I also want to consistently hit some internal attendance goals.

Describe your athletic abilities in five words or less.

A chicken with Olympic dreams.

Tell us a little bit about your life outside of the gym!

I grew up in the upstate alongside beautiful mountains, sprawling forests, and an abundance of Waffle Houses. I graduated from Anderson University with a degree in financial economics and accounting. My husband and I moved to the low country almost a year ago for work. Now that things are returning to normal, you may find us at a concert, an art festival, a food truck, on a hike, or at a brewery – until 9:00 PM when I will return to my cat and my cozy apartment unbothered by wasting my youth (girl.. same, though. Same.).
